“Kein Kinderspiel!”
Werkstatt für Übersetzer deutschsprachiger Literatur für junge Leser

Die Robert Bosch Stiftung und der Arbeitskreis für Jugendliteratur e.V.
laden vom 17. bis 22. August 2014 zum fünften Mal zu einer
Übersetzerwerkstatt im Elsa-Brändström-Haus in Hamburg ein, die sich
speziell der deutschsprachigen Kinder- und Jugendliteratur widmet.
Kinder- und Jugendliteratur öffnet die Tür in die Welt des Lesens und
erweitert den Horizont der jungen Leser in kultureller und sprachlicher
Hinsicht. In diesem Vermittlungsprozess über Sprachgrenzen hinweg kommt den
Übersetzern eine wesentliche Rolle zu.

Die fünftägige Werkstatt bietet bis zu 15 Übersetzern deutschsprachiger
Literatur für junge Leser die Möglichkeit, sich mit den aktuellen Tendenzen
der deutschsprachigen Kinder- und Jugendliteratur und den spezifischen
Übersetzungsproblemen dieses Genres auseinanderzusetzen.… [ Va' avanti ]

We welcome Expressions of Interest for our first BCLT Summer School Summit

The Summer School Summit will bring together experienced literary
translators from the UK and around the world who are interested in
translation workshops and teaching methodologies. We aim to build up a
community of practice, both nationally and internationally.

This three-day residential professional development programme will offer the
opportunity for literary translators who have run workshops or taught
translation to exchange ideas and experience, exploring different exercises
and techniques, and learning from each other. Sessions will be a mixture

Affective Translations
A CCWW Cross-Cultural Seminar

Saturday 10 May 2014, 2-4 pm

Room G21a, Senate House, University of London

The aim of this translation seminar is to investigate the role of affect in
translation, looking at how translating affects translators in the same way
that translators affect translations. In the last 15 years, Translation
Studies as a discipline has witnessed an increased interest in the agency of
translators, from Venuti’s (1995; 1998) advocacy of the visibility of
translators in the late ’90s to the more recent sociological turn in the
discipline which sees translators as ethical actors.

The format of the seminar will be a round-table discussion, comprising
female translators/authors living in the UK, who will introduce their work

Key Cultural Texts in Translation conference

The conference will be the culmination of the AHRC-funded Key Cultural Texts
in Translation project, which aims to enhance our understanding of the
changes that linguistic and other symbolic representations of identity
undergo in translation across times, spaces and media.

The conference will focus on the ways in which cultures define and re-define
themselves through the representation in texts and other artifacts (films;
paintings …) of their key concepts. What happens to the images of the
initial and the receiving cultures when these representations of key
concepts are translated? How are key concepts re-represented? What can we
learn from this about how peoples can adjust mutually in times of meetings

In April & May 2014 the fourth edition of the Translators Bliss Tour
(‘Vertalersgeluktournee’) will take place in The Netherlands. The tour
offers readers and literature lovers the opportunity to enter into a
dialogue with translators on their profession: what choices do they make?
And what makes the translation profession so challenging and rewarding?

In several short readings, sixteen different translators from eight
different languages will talk about their work, in particular the
translations which have been nominated for the European Literature Prize
2014. This year, the translators will visit bookstores in eleven Dutch
cities: Groningen Breda, Zutphen, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Sittard, Middelburg,
Heemstede, Haarlem, Gouda and Amsterdam. The tour starts on Tuesday 8 April

From 15-17 May 2014 ACE Traductores, the Spanish Association of Literary
Translators, will hold its sixth annual conference, ‘El ojo de Polisemo’.
The conference, organised in collaboration with the Faculty of Translation
and Interpreting, will take place in Granada and is open to students,
teachers and literary translation professionals. This year’s topic will be
‘Ambassadors of the Unknown: Translation of less translated languages’.
