Professor Ian Duncan, holder of the Florence Green Bixby Chair in
English, University of California, Berkeley, shows how Sir Walter Scott
placed Scotland at the centre of the world’s literary stage, influenced
writers around the globe, and laid the foundations for modern concepts
of fiction and the novel.
